InfoVista VistaPortal SE 5.1 ChooseCategory.jsp ConnPoolName cross site scripting

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in InfoVista VistaPortal SE 5.1. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file /VPortal/mgtconsole/categorytree/ChooseCategory.jsp. The manipulation of the argument ConnPoolName as part of a Parameter leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Reflected). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. Impacted is integrity. An attacker might be able to inject arbitrary html and script code into the web site. This would alter the appearance and would make it possible to initiate further attacks against site visitors.

The weakness was shared 12/17/2018 as mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-19816 since 12/03/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 12/18/2018).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
