Microsoft Windows up to Server 1803 Kernel information disclosure

A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows (Operating System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some processing of the component Kernel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. Impacted is confidentiality.

The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2019 as confirmed security update guide (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-0621. Attacking locally is a requirement. A single authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 03/06/2019). The advisory points out:

An information disclosure vulnerability exists when the Windows kernel improperly handles objects in memory. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could obtain information to further compromise the user’s system.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
